A boy is looking for cicadas in a mundane summer day which is haunted by the shadow of death.

Mae bachgen yn chwilio am sicadas ar ddiwrnod haf cyffredin sy’n cael ei aflonyddu gan gysgod marwolaeth.

Cicada was nominated for the Iris Prize by Mexipatra one of our worldwide network of partner festivals.

Born and raised in Southern China, Piaoyu received her MFA in Directing at FAMU in 2018. Piaoyu’s short film THE NETTLE (2017), a coming-of-age queer drama, premiered at BFI Flare and was selected by many other festivals, for instance Palm Springs Shortfest, and shortlisted for the prestigious Iris Prize. Piaoyu is preparing her feature debut THE UGLY MANDARINE with producer Veronika Kührová. The project was selected to Midpoint’s Project Lab and supported by Czech Film Fund and Creative Europe MEDIA.
