For clarity, when scheduling, broadcasters refer to the early hours of a morning as part of the transmission day before – so in layman's terms, the films will be available from 1.55am on Friday 3 November. Film4 is the title sponsor of the festival’s Best British Short film competition, acquiring broadcast and streaming rights to the 15 shortlisted films, which were free to view by a UK-wide audience for the first time in 2020.
Tim Highsted, Senior Editor, Acquired Feature Films for Film4, who chaired the jury for Best British Short, said: “I’m delighted to continue Film4’s support of the Iris Prize Best British Short with all this year’s shortlist of titles, including the winning film F**KED, released onto Channel 4 streaming as well as being broadcast on Channel 4. Iris – like Film4 – continues to showcase some the of the most distinctive new film talents emerging from the UK and this year’s selection once again offers an array of compelling stories about the LBGTQ+ experience.”
Berwyn Rowlands, Festival Director said: "Our partnership with Film4 on Channel 4 is in its 4th year and has always been significant in allowing Iris to share LGBTQ+ stories with a new audience. “This partnership also gives new British filmmaking talent the exposure they deserve. Many will go on to become story tellers respected for making sure diversity is at the heart of their work. “I am beyond proud that Iris and Film4 can work together like this, supporting the next generation of filmmaking talent whilst also offering the UK audience an opportunity to experience fresh LGBTQ+ stories."
Iris Prize will return next year: Tuesday 8 October – Sunday 13 October 2024, and is online until the end of October.
