Dykes on Bikes: An Origin Story

Dykes on Bikes is a motorcycle club with chapters all over the world. These days in Sydney it's about having a good time with friends and giving back to the community, but things weren't so recreational in the beginning.

Mae Dykes on Bikes yn glwb beiciau modur gyda changhennau ledled y byd. Y dyddiau hyn yn Sydney mae’n ymwneud â chael amser da gyda ffrindiau a rhoi yn ôl i’r gymuned, ond doedd pethau ddim mor adloniadol yn y dechrau.

Steph and Tilly are a creative duo.

Both queer and partners in film and life — Steph and Tilly connected through the need to tell uncompromising stories from a unique and sincere view. Though, similar in ideas, style and skills, Steph and Tilly have taken very different paths.

Growing up around visual artists, Tilly developed skills in drawing, animation and her keen passion for storytelling. She has specialised as a graphic artist for Film and TV working on Mr Inbetween, Carmen and the Stan Original Film I Am Woman. Steph was raised in Wellington by her Filipino artist mother and now lives in Sydney, Australia. Her background is widely diverse from light art installations, portrait painting, 3D Animation, the performing arts to architecture.

Both Tilly and Steph want to create content for film and TV. In their short amount of time working together Steph and Tilly have already created numerous music videos for Australian artists. In 2020, they secured Screen Australia Development Funding and their short film Winona was selected for Palm Springs International ShortFest 2021. In 2022, supported by Canon, they made a short documentary about the Dykes on Bikes.


Kate is a cinematographer, director and photographer. After studying under scholarship at Sydney Film School, Kate worked as a prep technician at Panavision Sydney where she managed the equipment used on various commercials and feature films. As Kate launched her freelance career, she began to make her mark directing and shooting comedy – most notably for SBS’s The Feed in 2019. Moving into the advertising space in 2020, Kate is currently represented as a Director/ DoP for agency MIK. Their roster of clients includes Spotify, Sony, BMG, Universal Music & Warner Music.

Yn queer ac yn bartneriaid mewn ffilm a bywyd – cysylltodd Steph a Tilly drwy’r angen i adrodd straeon digyfaddawd o safbwynt unigryw a didwyll. Er, yn debyg o ran syniadau, arddull a sgiliau, mae Steph a Tilly wedi dilyn llwybrau gwahanol iawn.
Wrth dyfu i fyny o gwmpas artistiaid gweledol, datblygodd Tilly sgiliau mewn lluniadu, animeiddio a’i hangerdd brwd am adrodd straeon. Mae hi wedi arbenigo fel artist graffeg ar gyfer Ffilm a Theledu gan weithio ar Mr Inbetween, Carmen a’r ffilm Stan Original, I Am Woman. Magwyd Steph yn Wellington gan ei mam, artist Ffilipinaidd, ac mae bellach yn byw yn Sydney, Awstralia. Mae ei chefndir yn amrywiol iawn o osodiadau celf ysgafn, paentio portreadau, Animeiddio 3D, y celfyddydau perfformio i bensaernïaeth.

Yn eu cyfnod byr o gydweithio mae Steph a Tilly eisoes wedi creu nifer o fideos cerddoriaeth ar gyfer artistiaid o Awstralia. Yn 2020, fe wnaethant sicrhau Cyllid Datblygu Screen Australia a dewiswyd eu ffilm fer Winona ar gyfer Palm Springs International ShortFest 2021. Yn 2022, gyda chefnogaeth Canon, gwnaethant raglen ddogfen fer am y Dykes on Bikes.


Mae Kate yn sinematograffydd, cyfarwyddwr a ffotograffydd. Ar ôl astudio dan ysgoloriaeth yn Ysgol Ffilm Sydney, bu Kate yn gweithio fel technegydd paratoi yn Panavision Sydney lle bu’n rheoli’r offer a ddefnyddiwyd ar wahanol hysbysebion a ffilmiau nodwedd. Wrth i Kate lansio ei gyrfa ar ei liwt ei hun, dechreuodd wneud ei marc yn cyfarwyddo a saethu comedi – yn fwyaf nodedig ar gyfer The Feed ar SBS yn 2019. Gan symud i’r maes hysbysebu yn 2020, mae Kate ar hyn o bryd yn cael ei chynrychioli fel Cyfarwyddwr / Cyfarwyddwr Ffotograffiaeth gan asiantaeth MIK. Mae eu rhestr o gleientiaid yn cynnwys Spotify, Sony, BMG, Universal Music a Warner Music.
