During the summer of 1986, ten-yr-old Tate Millikin is uprooted and forced to move to the suburbs of Kansas City. When his transphobic father discovers that their next door neighbour is a trans woman named Gossamer, he forbids Tate to even say hello to her. As Tate’s parents’marriage unravels, Tate defies his father’s orders and, instead, forms a powerful bond with Gossamer and her father, Edward, a retired English professor.
Lisa Donato is a writer, director, and activist from Billings, Montana. She is an Iris Prize alumni, competing in 2018 with short film There You Are. The feature film Signature Move, co-written with Fawzia Mirza, also screened at Iris in the same year.
