• Plymouth College of Art Student Sean Morgan from Caerphilly creates dynamic new designs for 15th Iris Prize.

• “I think I've created something really special to me and hopefully others, something that really celebrates the LGBTQIA community in a wonderful way”

Iris has given herself a new look as she plans to unfold her wings for Iris Prize’s 15th year in October!

Having nurtured a strong relationship with Plymouth College of Art through Iris on the Move the Iris outreach programme. Students were asked to submit ideas for a dynamic new design to feature across all its media platforms.  Queer artist Sean Morgan’s illustrations have been chosen and will create a vibrantly colourful and humorous look to reflect the diversity of the festival’s ever expanding global audience.

Caerphilly-born queer artist Sean Morgan graduated from Plymouth College of Art last year with first class honours in BA (Hons) Illustration. Currently living in Plymouth, Sean plans to return to Plymouth College of Art this autumn to study MA illustration.

Sean explains his style:

My craft revolves around humour and celebration of the everyday, all within simple shapes and crunchy texture” and adds his delight at being chosen for Iris Prize. I am incredibly proud about being commissioned by Iris Prize, the team have been a pleasure to work alongside and I think I’ve created something really special to me and hopefully others, something that really celebrates the LGBTQIA community in a wonderful way and I think The Iris Prize is the perfect way to do this, a brilliant festival celebrating the beauty and diversity of our community”.

Berwyn Rowlands, Festival Director says:

We are delighted with Sean’s designs and can’t wait to introduce audiences to his work. We needed something that would stand out on a small badge or mug next to something that would fill giant cinema screen. Sean has given us something which is both intimate and epic”.

Sean’s design work has already received recognition. Having been selected for Nationwide Degree Show 2020 and  his toxic masculinity booklet featured in New Designers exhibition, as well as co-creating a new magazine for Plymouth students.

  • Mae Myfyriwr o Goleg Celf Aberplym, Sean Morgan o Gaerffili wedi creu dyluniadau newydd deinamig ar gyfer 15fed Gwobr Iris
  • “Rwy’n credu fy mod i wedi creu rhywbeth arbennig iawn i mi ac i bobl eraill gobeithio, rhywbeth sy’n dathlu’r gymuned LHDT+ mewn ffordd ryfeddol.”

Mae Iris wedi rhoi gwedd newydd iddi hi ei hun wrth iddi gynllunio i agor ei hadenydd ar gyfer 15fed flwyddyn Gwobr Iris ym mis Hydref, diolch i fyfyriwr celf talentog o Gaerffili.

Ar ôl meithrin perthynas gref â Choleg Celf Aberplym trwy raglen gwaith maes Iris ar Grwydr, gofynnodd Iris i’r myfyrwyr gyflwyno syniadau ar gyfer dyluniad newydd deinamig i’w gynnwys ar draws ei holl lwyfannau cyfryngau. Dewiswyd lluniau’r artist Queer Sean Morgan a byddant yn creu golwg fywiog, liwgar a doniol i adlewyrchu amrywiaeth cynulleidfa fyd-eang yr ŵyl, sy’n dal i dyfu.

Graddiodd yr artist queer o Gaerffili, Sean Morgan, o Goleg Celf Aberplym y llynedd gyda gradd anrhydedd dosbarth cyntaf BA (Anrh) Darlunio. Ar hyn o bryd mae’n byw yn Aberplym a’r hydref hwn bydd yn dychwelyd i Goleg Celf Aberplym i astudio MA Darlunio.

Mae Sean yn egluro ei arddull:

“Mae fy nghrefft yn cwmpasu hiwmor a dathlu pob dydd, i gyd o fewn siapiau syml a gwead crensiog”. Mae’n falch iawn o gael ei ddewis ar gyfer Gwobr Iris: “Rwy’n hynod falch o gael fy nghomisiynu gan Wobr Iris, ac mae wedi bod yn bleser gweithio ochr yn ochr i’r tîm. Credaf fy mod i wedi creu rhywbeth arbennig iawn i mi a phobl eraill gobeithio, rhywbeth sydd wir yn dathlu’r gymuned LHDT+ mewn ffordd ryfeddol, a chredaf mai Gwobr Iris yw’r ffordd berffaith o wneud hyn, gŵyl wych yn dathlu harddwch ac amrywiaeth ein cymuned.”

Dywed Berwyn Rowlands, Cyfarwyddwr yr Ŵyl:

“Rydyn ni wrth ein bodd â dyluniadau Sean ac ni allwn aros i gyflwyno’n cynulleidfaoedd i’w waith. Roedd angen rhywbeth arnom a fyddai’n sefyll allan ar fathodyn bach neu fwg wrth ymyl rhywbeth a fyddai’n llenwi sgrin sinema anferth Mae Sean wedi rhoi rhywbeth inni sy’n agos atoch ac yn epig.”

Mae gwaith dylunio Sean eisoes wedi derbyn cydnabyddiaeth ar ôl cael ei ddewis ar gyfer y Nationwide Degree Show 2020 lle ymddangosodd ei lyfryn am wrywdod gwenwynig yn arddangosfa New Designers, yn ogystal â chyd-greu cylchgrawn newydd ar gyfer myfyrwyr Aberplym.
