2023 Iris Prize Jury

John Sheedy is an award-winning film, television and theatre director. His first short film Mrs McCutcheon had its Australian premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2017, won Short Film of the Year at the 17th Annual Screen Producers Australia Awards, was nominated for Best Short Film at the 7th AACTA Awards, and won Best Director at the 2018 ADG Awards. John’s first feature film H is for Happiness received eleven nominations at the 2020 AACTA Awards including Best Film and Best Direction, and an ADG Award nomination for John. His second short Tarneit won the international Iris Prize and gained John another ADG Award nomination.

For television, John was set up director for In Our Blood, a drama inspired by Australia’s radical response to AIDS in the 1980’s. Other credits include the teen drama series More Than This and several blocks on Home and Away.

Cafodd ei ffilm fer gyntaf Mrs McCutcheon ei pherfformiad cyntaf yn Awstralia yng Ngŵyl Ffilm Ryngwladol Melbourne yn 2017, enillodd Ffilm Fer y Flwyddyn yn 17eg Gwobrau Cynhyrchwyr Sgrin Blynyddol Awstralia, cafodd ei henwebu am y Ffilm Fer Orau yn 7fed Gwobrau AACTA, ac enillodd y Cyfarwyddwr Gorau yng Ngwobrau ADG 2018. Derbyniodd ffilm nodwedd gyntaf John H is for Happiness un ar ddeg o enwebiadau yng Ngwobrau AACTA 2020 gan gynnwys y Ffilm Orau a’r Cyfarwyddo Gorau, ac enwebiad Gwobr ADG ar gyfer John.

Enillodd ei ail ffilm fer Tarneit Wobr Rhyngwladol Iris ac enillodd John enwebiad Gwobr ADG arall. Ar gyfer y teledu, roedd John yn gyfarwyddwr gosodiadau ar gyfer In our Blood, drama a ysbrydolwyd gan ymateb radical Awstralia i AIDS yn yr 1980au. Mae credydau eraill yn cynnwys y gyfres ddrama i bobl ifanc yn eu harddegau More Than This a sawl bloc ar Home and Away.
