What is a woman?

In the claustrophobic confines of a women’s changing room one woman is upset to see a trans woman in the same space, and begins haranguing her and her friend, hoping the others will agree with her.

Marin Håskjold (b. 1993) is an filmmaker and artist based in Oslo. She has a BA in moving images from Nordland School of Arts and Film in Kabelvåg. Notions of identity is a central theme in Håskjolds work, where she explores different understandings of sex and gender in a queer and feminist perspective. Her work has been exhibited and screened in several art institutions and film festivals, such as Tate Modern, Bomuldsfabriken Kunsthall, Coast Contemporary, Kyiv International Film Festival, Helsinki International Festival and the Short Film Festival in Grimstad. Håskjolds short film «What is a Woman?» (2020) was awarded with the Norwegian Academy Award, the Amanda, in the category best short in 2021.
