Second Recipient of Iris Prize Documentary film finance fund announced

The Iris Prize Documentary Film Finance Fund announces second award
Organisers of Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival have today (Monday 13 November 2023) announced that Ira Putilova is the second recipient of the Iris Prize Documentary Film Finance Fund. The Documentary Film Finance Fund was established by the Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival and is sponsored by FROOT, the UK LGBTQ+ streaming service, and Aberystwyth University who have committed to invest £20,000 in the final film. The purpose of the fund is to support emerging British documentary filmmakers in telling unique LGBTQ+ stories (film running time: 22/25 minutes or 40 minutes) – with a particular emphasis on those from underrepresented groups.
Ira Putilova has been chosen to receive the second Documentary Film Fund award and this film tells the story of four members of a queer Muay Thai club in London. The club focuses on confronting rising hate crime by teaching martial arts to queer, trans and non-binary people and running self-defence classes for their community.
Berwyn Rowlands (Festival Director) and Angela Clarke (BAFTA-nominated documentary filmmaker) were responsible for overseeing the intake and shortlisting of the submissions to the Fund.

“I’m delighted that the fund administered by the Iris Prize will enable this wonderful story to be made into a documentary. We are committed to shining a light on the untold stories form within the LGBTQ+ community and making sure they get to be seen by a new global audience.”

Philip Webb, COO of FROOT and OUTtv said: “The documentary (title TBC) is set to be a poignant and celebratory exploration within the unique setting of a queer martial arts club in London and provides audiences with the opportunity to delve into a community they may not be familiar with. “The jury this year had an extremely hard decision to make, but the passion of Ira and Emma’s application shone through, and we can’t wait to see what is created and continue to provide a platform for incredible up and coming filmmakers through the Iris Prize.”

Heddiw (dydd Llun 13 Tachwedd 2023) cyhoeddodd trefnwyr Gŵyl Ffilm LHDTQ+ Gwobr Iris taw Ira Putilova yw ail dderbynnydd Cronfa Cyllid Ffilm Ddogfennol Gwobr Iris. Sefydlwyd y Gronfa Cyllid Ffilm Ddogfennol gan Ŵyl Ffilm LHDTQ+ Gwobr Iris ac fe'i noddir gan FROOT, gwasanaeth ffrydio LHDTQ+ y DU, a Phrifysgol Aberystwyth sydd wedi ymrwymo i fuddsoddi £20,000 yn y ffilm derfynol. Pwrpas y gronfa yw cefnogi gwneuthurwyr ffilmiau dogfen Prydeinig sy'n dod i'r amlwg wrth adrodd straeon LHDTQ+ unigryw (amser rhedeg ffilmiau: 22/25 munud neu 40 munud) – gyda phwyslais arbennig ar y rhai o grwpiau heb gynrychiolaeth ddigonol.
Dewiswyd Ira Putilova i dderbyn ail wobr y Gronfa Ffilm ac mae'r ffilm hon yn adrodd hanes pedwar aelod o glwb Muay Thai queer yn Llundain. Mae'r clwb yn canolbwyntio ar wynebu troseddau casineb cynyddol trwy ddysgu crefft ymladd i bobl queer, traws ac anneuaidd a chynnal dosbarthiadau hunanamddiffyn ar gyfer eu cymuned.
Roedd Berwyn Rowlands (Cyfarwyddwr yr Ŵyl) ac Angela Clarke (gwneuthurwr ffilmiau dogfen a enwebwyd am BAFTA) yn gyfrifol am oruchwylio'r nifer sy'n derbyn y cyflwyniadau i'r Gronfa a'u rhestru'n fyr.
Dywedodd Berwyn Rowlands, Cyfarwyddwr yr Ŵyl:
"Rwy'n falch iawn y bydd y gronfa a weinyddir gan Wobr Iris yn galluogi'r stori wych hon i gael ei gwneud yn rhaglen ddogfen. Rydym wedi ymrwymo i daflu goleuni ar y ffurf straeon nas hadrodd o fewn y gymuned LGBTQ+ a sicrhau eu bod yn cael eu gweld gan gynulleidfa fyd-eang newydd."
Dywedodd Ira Putilova:

Ychwanegodd y Cynhyrchydd Emma Norton:

Dywedodd Philip Webb, Prif Swyddog Gweithredol FROOT ac OUTtv:
"Bydd y rhaglen ddogfen (enw I’w gadarnhau) yn archwiliad teimladwy a dathliadol o fewn lleoliad unigryw clwb crefft ymladd queer yn Llundain ac yn rhoi cyfle i gynulleidfaoedd ymchwilio i gymuned nad ydyn nhw efallai'n gyfarwydd â hi. "Roedd gan y rheithgor benderfyniad hynod o galed eleni i'w wneud, ond disgleiriodd angerdd cais Ira ac Emma drwyddo, ac ni allwn aros i weld beth sy'n cael ei greu a pharhau i ddarparu llwyfan i wneuthurwyr ffilmiau anhygoel sy'n dod i fyny a rhai sy'n dod trwy Wobr Iris."
