My Brother is a Mermaid is a magical realist drama about the unconditional love and admiration of a younger brother for their transgender sibling. Through the imaginative eyes of 7-year-old Kuda, and set in a bleak, dilapidated coastal town, the film follows transgender teen Kai’s emotional battles with her family, her community and herself.

This dazzling short film is a tender portrait of how a child’s innocence and unconditional love can be a powerful and disruptive force for good.
