This year’s jury for the prestigious International Iris Prize Short Film has been announced, and the organisers of the Cardiff-based Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival supported by The Michael Bishop Foundation are thrilled to confirm that Campbell X, the well-established and prize-winning filmmaker and director, will chair the panel.
Supporting Campbell X will be Darius Shu, Best British Winner 2022 and a cinematographer and producer; Roxy Bourdillon, an award-winning writer and the editor-in-chief of DIVA; Werner Borkes, the Festival Director of Roze Filmdagen, the Amsterdam LGBTQ+ Film Festival; John Sheedy, Iris Prize Winner 2022 and award-winning film, television and theatre director; Cinder Chou, a Taiwanese American writer, director, and producer; Alastair James, a journalist with Attitude Magazine; Lindsay Robinson, from Co-Op Respect LGBTQ; Cherie Federico, the Director and co-founder of Aesthetica; and Guto Rhun, Young Audiences Commissioner at S4C. The winner of the International Iris Prize Short, supported by The Michael Bishop Foundation, will receive £30,000 to make a new LGBTQ+ themed film in the UK and will be invited to be part of the jury next year.
Berwyn Rowlands, Iris Prize Festival Director, said: “It is an absolute pleasure to welcome Campbell X back to Cardiff to chair the international jury.  He has been a long-standing friend to Iris and we are confident that he will lead the panel of jurors in the difficult deliberations of choosing a winner out of the 35 short films in competition. “Once again we have a varied and mixed group of talented people on the jury, and each will bring their own expertise to the decision-making table.  It is particularly exciting this year as we are moving to our new home at Vue Cinema in the centre of Cardiff, next to the prestigious Principality Stadium.  We hope that our jury, as well as our audience, will enjoy watching the very best short films as we share some wonderful LGBTQ+ stories from around the world.”
