Iris Prize – here is your Class of 2022!

Organisers of the Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival are delighted to announce the shortlist of 36 films competing for the prestigious Iris Prize for the best international short film.  This year, the festival returns in person from 11 – 16 October.  The box office opens on 16 September, with full festival passes, day tickets, and weekend tickets available. The shortlist of international filmmakers competing for the £30,000 Iris Prize International Short Film Competition supported by The Michael Bishop Foundation is unveiled today.  This year’s shortlist features films from 18 different countries, including two from the UK and three from Ireland.  Full details of programmes and showtimes can be found here Iris Prize has many international partner festivals who nominated 21 of the shortlisted films, with the remainder chosen by a pre-selection jury.  The shortlisted films are presented in nine separate programmes, with stories ranging from coming-of-age teenage tales, to horror comedies, through a journey encompassing designer babies and the moving stories of people looking for love and companionship in the autumn of their lives.

'We are pleased to unveil our fantastic shortlist of the best of the best in LGBTQ+ filmmaking.  We have filmmakers from 18 countries, representing full diversity, actively engaging across the LGBTQ+ community. The uniting factor in all 36 films is an exhilarating celebration of lives of LGBTQ+ people across the world. ‘It is especially poignant to be welcoming our domestic and international filmmakers and guests back to Cardiff, for the first in person, since 2019.  We hope you come to enjoy a festival of film and also enjoy the ‘fringe events’ such as the first Iris gig at the legendary Cardiff venues, Clwb Ifor Bach and the other nightly parties during the week.’

Mae trefnwyr Gŵyl Ffilm LHDTQ+ Gwobr Iris yn falch iawn o gyhoeddi'r rhestr fer o 36 ffilm sy'n cystadlu am Wobr Iris am y ffilm fer ryngwladol orau.  Eleni, bydd yr ŵyl yn dychwelyd wyneb-yn-wyneb rhwng 11 a 16 Hydref.  Mae'r swyddfa docynnau yn agor ar 16 Medi, gyda thocynnau tymor, tocynnau dydd, a thocynnau penwythnos ar gael. Mae'r rhestr fer o wneuthurwyr ffilmiau rhyngwladol sy'n cystadlu am y Gystadleuaeth Ffilm Fer Ryngwladol Gwobr Iris sydd werth £30,000, gyda chefnogaeth The Michael Bishop Foundation yn cael ei dadorchuddio heddiw.  Mae'r rhestr fer eleni yn cynnwys ffilmiau o 18 o wahanol wledydd, gan gynnwys dwy o'r DU a thair o Iwerddon.  Mae manylion llawn y rhaglenni ac amseroedd sioeau i'w gweld yn Rhaglen / programme | Iris Prize (eventive.org). Mae gan Wobr Iris 25 o wyliau partner rhyngwladol a enwebodd 21 o'r ffilmiau ar y rhestr fer, gyda'r gweddill wedi'u dewis gan reithgor cyn dethol.  Cyflwynir y ffilmiau ar y rhestr fer mewn naw rhaglen wahanol, gyda straeon yn amrywio o hanesion pobl ifanc yn eu harddegau yn dod i oed, i gomedïau arswydus, drwy daith sy'n cwmpasu babis cynllunydd straeon ingol a theimladwy am bobl sy'n chwilio am gariad a chwmnïaeth yn hwyrddydd eu hoes.
Dywedodd Berwyn Rowlands, Cyfarwyddwr Gŵyl Ffilm Gwobr Iris:
'Rydym yn falch o gyhoeddi ein rhestr fer wych o'r gorau o ran gwneud ffilmiau LHDTQ+.  Mae gennym wneuthurwyr ffilmiau o 18 gwlad, sy'n cynrychioli amrywiaeth lawn, gan ymgysylltu'n weithredol ar draws y gymuned LHDTQ+. Mae'r ffactor uno ym mhob un o'r 36 ffilm yn ddathliad gwefreiddiol o fywydau pobl LHDTQ+ ar draws y byd. 'Mae'n arbennig o deimladwy i groesawu ein gwneuthurwyr ffilmiau a'n gwesteion domestig a rhyngwladol yn ôl i Gaerdydd, am y tro cyntaf wyneb-yn-wyneb, ers 2019.  Rydyn ni'n gobeithio y dewch i fwynhau gŵyl o ffilmiau a hefyd mwynhau'r 'digwyddiadau ymylol' fel y gig Iris cyntaf yn y gigfan chwedlonol Caerdydd, Clwb Ifor Bach a'r partïon nosweithiol eraill yn ystod yr wythnos.'
